Counselling & Acupuncture #01ABOUT COUNSELLING
Counselling gives you the opportunity to explore your issues in a safe and confidential environment. The idea is that through discussion with your counsellor you will be able to gain understanding, insight and awareness,
which will then enable and empower you to facilitate change in your life.

Integrative Counselling
All people are individual and have varying issues and needs, therefore no one school of thought can suit all.
In order to best meet the needs of each individual, I work with an Integrative model, which means I use aspects from each of the following different theoretical models.

Person Centred Theory
The most important aspect of the therapeutic process is the client/counsellor relationship.
Using Congruence, Unconditional Positive Regard and Empathy, to build a therapeutic relationship in which there is trust, helps the client to feel valued and safe enough to be able to explore their issues openly and honestly without being fear of being judged. This can lead to greater insight, healing and progress.

Psychodynamic Theory
Our early experiences, both negative and positive, impact on our present way of thinking, behaving and relating to others, therefore it is important to help the client to make those links between past and present behaviour, to increase their self awareness and bring about change.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
Many people have distorted thinking and negative self-concept, ‘rational and irrational’ thoughts which shape their emotional and behavioural responses.
Using CBT helps to challenge these negative ways of thinking and encourages the client to learn how to challenge their own thoughts. Gradually clients can learn a new way of thinking which is based on a much more positive self- concept.

Creative Therapy
I will sometimes ask clients to draw, paint or model as a non-verbal means of self expression. I have found that this works well when people find it difficult to articulate their feelings.
